pattern chart question

I;ve just started knitting this

It's the first time I have attempted anything that needs me to follow a chart. I;ve been following it bottom to top, left to right. However I was chating to a friend last night who though I should go bottom to top but after my left to right row I should follow the next row of the chart from right to left. I hope that makes sense.

So which should I be doing. I want to know before I go any further a I;ve only done a couple of inches so far.

Unless noted by designer, charts are knitted from the bottom.

Odd rows - Left to Right
Even Rows - Right to Left

She numbered the chart very nicely to remind you. (I am so thinking about doing that sweater too.)

Thanks, my friend did point out the numbering to me. Dyslexic me didn't take any notice of them

Ahh well, tonight I'll be undoing and starting again.

Don't rip anything. I did it backwards!!!

Odd rows - Right to Left
Even Rows - Left to Right

Does it matter if you're consistent?

And the OP's 1st (odd) row was left-right, so all the odd rows would be left-right the way she knits, yes?

Well it turns out in this case it really didn't matter, the chart is symmetrical. Of course I didn't realise this till after I undid everything and restarted

Still I know for next time that I should check the numbering and my sweater is coming along nicely, if quite slowly.
