Shoes

Since it's been summer since DD started walking, we've kept her in Robeez style shoes. I love them because it's so close to barefoot but gives her just enough protection. Unfortunately, winter is coming, and they're just not going to cut it in the rain and snow. Any ideas on winter-safe shoes that are similarly easy on a young toddler's feet?

Last winter we did Stonz on top of Robeez. Similarly close to barefoot. We will do the same this year

I highly recommend soft stars.

then you could get an overshoe like Stonz for when it's snowy

My son also just started walking this summer and I was afraid I'd never be able to get him into anything but sandals before the snow arrives. We recently took him to a local shoe store and let him help pick out his own shoes. We ended up with Stride Rite - Landon casual sneakers (http://www.striderite.com/shopping/p...758&sColor=673). I'm very happy with them, as they are very flexible soles and are super easy to get on/off. More importantly, my son seems to like them too.

Are you looking for shoes or boots? For boots I definitely recommend the Stonz as well. For shoes we loved the stride rites.

There are several brands of flexible shoes with treads. The guideline I read somewhere when DD1 and DS were younger was that you should be able to bend the shoe in half with one hand. DS went into Robeez Tredz once we needed shoes with a real sole that could get wet/muddy/dirty. Pedipeds. Pedoodles and See Kai Run come to mind as well.

Hmm... I just went and looked at it appears Robeez has changed their line and I'm not sure if the Tredz are the MiniShoez or the First Stepz?

Wow! I knew I could count on you other mammas to give me some good recommendations. The Stonz look great as boots, and we can still do a minimalist shoe underneath. The softstar shoes look really interesting too, and I'm interested in something like that for me. As a SAHM, I rarely have to dress up, and my feet don't like real shoes. In fact, since I had DD, they really can't stand them at all. These are some great ideas to explore. Thanks a bunch.

another soft star vote! If I could afford it I would buy their boots for DD too.

I have the same problem... my 9 month old is walking and we have cold/wet winters. Right now he wear robeez boots outside, but I'm looking at soft-star shoes. Although they seem awfully expensive.
Stonz look cute!

Edit to add, does anyone have a young toddler, less then 12 months, walking in Stonz? They look like they might be awkward for a young walker... ?

carmel,

We just ordered softstarboots for our 11month for the NewEngland fall and winter (a birthday present).

The stonz look great, but I am hesitant as well, I feel they might be an additional obstical during walking and he like less shoe/clothes at all times.

Also, there are clear warning signs of not using stonz on asphalt too often. We do have snow, but not constantely.

Yeah we're in Oregon where we can count on it being wet, and fairly cold, but maybe not snowy, except for a week or two. My lo pulls shoes/socks off frequently. The robeez boots stay on. And the softstars are cute and look very well made.
