I know I am insulin resistant. Anyone else struggling with this?

I have lost 55 pounds since March, but have 52 more to go.

Wow, congrats on the weight loss! Sounds like you've made some great headway.

I don't think I'm insulin resistant, but I've been reading this book called "good calories, bad calories" which talks a lot about insulin resistance... it's been really fascinating, so your post caught my attention.

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I am insulin resistant and have 100 pounds to lose. I am overwhelmed, feel horrible about myself and feel it is impossible to loose the weight. You’ve given me motivation. What are you doing to lose the weight?

I've been told I'm insulin resistant. Ever since I started Metformin in January, I've lost nearly 60 lbs. I don't know what else I should be doing though. My Met dose is 1000mg/day.

In March my Doctor scared the you know what out of me. I was tippng the scale at 232. My cholesterol was sky high. Nearly pre-diabetic. I was miserable.

So, I got out my old WW materials for the Core program (which I did well on). But that has morphed into Clean Eating. I am not 100% clean eating, but try.

I have noticed I am still tired all the time. My hair doesn't look good either. I called me Doctor last week and we decided to take me off Metformin (I asked if I could get off it), and move up some lab tests. I did those on Friday and I am waiting for the results.

Anyhow, I was reading about insulin resistant people storing fat around their gut. Which I have this problem. Eventhough I have lost 55 pounds I don't look like it in my stomach area. I thought maybe getting off the Metformin would help. But as my Doctor explained, it might not. Since it's being insulin resistant that is causing it. Sigh...

My husband has lost 30 pounds.

In the Sassy September Chat thread in the Allergy sub-forum, Jane has been telling me about the link between magnesium deficiency and insulin resistance. I am going to try getting some of the magnesium chloride bath flakes she recommended to me. She said we don't absorb much magnesium from supplements.

Last fall at my highest, I was 309 . I couldn't believe it. It's all around my middle as well. I'm hovering around 240-245 right now.

Which labs are you having done? I'm tired too, and my hair doesn't look good either, I seem to be losing more & more every time I brush it. I'm wondering if I should have labs done again??

And congrats to your DH for losing weight too! Mine had gastric bypass done last fall, and he's lost over 130 lbs. now, and looks so awesome !!
