DS has severe decay on his front four teeth and we're going for the surgery.
I've kept him away from fluoride (toothpaste, water, etc.). The dentist wants to do a fluoride sealant, and I'm having a hard time finding information about fluoride that isn't ingested- so many of the anti-fluoride information deals with taking it internally. I'm having a hard time finding anything about the efficacy of topical fluoride sealants in preventing decay. His dentist says that the toxic effects aren't an issue as it's applied to his teeth directly, but can't he still absorb it? And that doesn't address whether it actually works in the first place!
Does it help? Is it a scam?
(I think I'd love to hear lots of you say that it's worthless, or offer links to studies showing that sealants don't work either, because I think I want a reason to refuse the sealants... the idea of them grosses me out... but if it really can prevent further decay...)
Rambling... thanks!!
