I think this is normal...but what's causing it?

ds is 3 weeks old and bf is going well so far, but I want to know if this situation is normal and what could be causing it. ds is feed every 1.5 - 2hrs from 7am to midnight, but when 2:30/3am comes around, he'll feed every 30 minutes to one hour until 5/6:30am. I switch breasts at each feeding and he usually stays for 10-20 minutes at each breast. I do change him each feeding or every other feeding at night if he is really wet and he is falling right back to sleep while still on the breast after he is finished. What could possibly be causing him to want to feed so often at night?
FYI: I do feed on demand.

I think that is normal. DS is just about 15 months and still nursing a ton during the waking hours. He has tapered off during the day, nights are still his milk fest!

Totally normal, in my experience.
Also, your LO may go through a week or two of better sleeping and then revert to more night/sleep nursings. Your LO may be in a growth spurt right now, or just may want to spend a ton of time with you, or just may enjoy nursing alot. Just try to relax and enjoy it all.....
If you can, learn how to nurse lying down or figure out a way to nurse at night that you enjoy (I hate nursing lying down, but love to read my Kindle at night, so I read a TON some weeks and barely any other weeks)....
Good luck!
