That is disgusting. I don't know what I would do, but bringing Diet Pepsi to the event would not be it.

Something I've learned over the last few months as PTA president is that most companies will donate things as long as you ask in the right way.

: If there is a "only donate Pepsi Co. products" rule it's going to be about brand awareness not money. If the company IS that interested in brand awareness, they'll jump at a chance to get a "beverages generously donated by" sign put up at the event.

My guess would be that the rule is "only sell Pepsi products" and they are asking for donations to resell at the school carnival.

If you don't want the Pepsi, I would neither donate nor buy them. Bring a bottle of water to the school carnival, write a cheque to the PTA if you want to donate at all, and go one. If your issue is that they're serving soda then bring that up to the school, but I don't see how it would be different if they were buying and selling coke products.

If the school has a CONTRACT with them, then aren't they supposed to be providing it? Sounds so odd to me, to say you the parents can only GIVE us certain things b/c of a contract.

See, that's what I thought at first and, even though I don't care one way or the other about Pepsi products, I'd be mad that they're getting the products in such an inefficient and expensive way.

I'm thinking the situation may be one of two things:

1. The school may have to suggest Pepsi products be the ones donated because of the contract but aren't limited to using only Pepsi products.

OR- and this is the one I think it is...

2. The school has a contract that states the school will only serve Pepsi co products on school grounds. If you were to bring in a huge case of Coca-Cola the school would be in violation of their contract to serve it on school grounds. So technically you could donate whatever you want, but the school's hands would be tied when it comes to actually using it. I think that seems the most likely.

If it were me, I would forgo the pepsi donation but would give the pto/school the cash equivilant of purchasing the softdrinks as a donation. At our school, we are constantly bombarded with requests for donations, and I gently opt out of most of them.
