Cat destroying house with claws! Help!

I have a big 13 lb orange tabby that I LOVE. But he is destructive as heck with his claws. We rescued him when he was about two and being the age and size he is, we opted to keep his claws. He has a scratching post, but insists on using the furniture most of the time. And when he is outside in the garage and wants in (or in the basement and wants up) he claws the molding. He has taken hunks of wood out! How can I get him to stop!? I'm at my wits end with this destructiveness. He's SO territorial and I know that is part of it..he scratches all the trees in the yard too and our deck posting (which shows wear from him). SIGH!

Do you regularly trim his nails? You can use feliway to help curb the scratching indoors.

Is he neutered? If you think he's using the scratching as marking and he isn't, that would be my first step.

Feliway may help, but trimming his nails or using nail caps would likely be the quickest solution.

yes, he's neutered! The nail caps...LOL....tried it...he ripped them all off within an hour!
We do trim his nails..he is due now so we'll try that and I'll look into the Feliway. Thanks!
