tooth extraction of infected tooth and other ?'s

Hi, I just found out yesterday that I have an infected tooth. Here's a little background, about a year and a half ago I was at the end of pregnancy and my back molar broke, I had absolutely no pain. I went into the dentist and he built it up with a temporary, he said the tooth needed a crown and we scheduled it for a few monthes later. After I got the crown done and I was in immediate pain. He told me the temporary crown was just not as good as the permanent and the pain would go away after they put the permanent on. It didn't, I got in to see him again and he took an x-ray. He said there was no sign of infection, but that there probably was one and I now needed antibiotics and a root canal. I was completely against that, after reading Dr. Weston Prices research, I also didn't take the antibiotics. He said that I could wait and see if it settled down. Well, it did, after about six monthes. Now it has been beginning to hurt and throb, not all the time, but it's becoming more frequent and is mostly during the night. I went into a different dentist and she says it's infected (I could even see it on the xray). So now I guess my only option is extraction. My question is, will the infection go away on it's own, without antibiotics? Also, we have been ttc. In the last 4 monthes I have had two early miscarriages, could that be related to this infection? I have also had several boils in the last several monthes, all on the same side of my body as the tooth, could this mean the infection has spread through my body? TIA.

Holy Cow Mamma.... If I were you I would get that thing out of there asap! And I wouldn't fool around w/implants either. It's in the very back and will not show. Teeth typically shift forward if they are going to shift at all. It sounds like you have dealt w/this thing long enough. IMO, it is a ticking time bomb and you don't know when it's going to explode. I wouldn't want an infection like that in my head. Then add ttc to the mix.... no way! Get that out and give your body time to heal (it won't take long once that thing is out of there) and then ttc again... worry free of that nasty thing.

I am speaking from experience. Back molar, multiple problems and infection. I even tried the root canal knowing the side effects/issues and in the end I had to get the darn thing out anyway. Best thing I ever did! I did not do any antibiotics. After the failed root canal, I was told that if I got the tooth out right away that I wouldn't need them. Find a good specialist/oral surgeon w/lots of experience. Seriously, life is too short to have to go on dealing with this.

allnaturalmama- Thanks for replying, you post has made me feel much better. I'm going in for an extraction on Friday, hoping the infection clears up on its own (I don't have a fever, so that's a good sign). The only thing is that we are in the 2ww with ttc and I'm hoping that if I am pregnant this doesn't cause any harm to baby or another miscarriage.

I'm so happy for you! It will be such a relief to not have to deal w/that thing anymore.

When I had it done I took some pain medication the first day and evening (though the pain was nothing compared to what I had dealt with when that thing was in there) and then an advil or two the second day and that was it. Of course the area was a little sore for a few days so I ate applesauce, scrambled eggs, and yogurt. I can't tell you how much better I felt. It's been almost a year and a half now since I had it out.
