How do you choose a dentist?

If you have no insurance to tell you where to go, what are your criteria when looking for a dentist? Assuming no special dental needs, just standard care. I have not personally been to a dentist in about 10 years I want to find a good family dentist for us and I have no idea what to look for. I have a (almost) 12mo DD who needs her first assessment and there's me and DP. Should we use a different one for her, or just one for everyone? What are your criteria and how do you search? TIA!

I think most family dentist start working with kids at an older age like 4 or 5. But if you find a good family dentist, they can probably direct you to a good dentist for your dd.

I'd start by distance from home/work.
