Irritable or typical mobile 7 month old?

Lately, leaving DS in one spot for any time longer than 10 mins, he becomes fussy and disinterested and wants to be held. He's learning to crawl - currently army crawls and rocks back and forth on all fours. I'm sure he's teething but hasn't cut his first tooth yet. Oh, he had a flu shot yesterday.... but even before that, he was like this.

Could all of this be a factor in to his irritability?

I'm amazed you get 10 minutes!

When I have to put DS down, I rotate through the floor, Exersaucer, and jumper. Each lasts maybe 5 minutes.

DD was like that, too -- even worse, in fact. I think it's the rare baby who's ok with being put down for very long at this stage.

Exactly what I was going to say!

I really think it has a lot to do with where they are at with their mobility. My DS2 was full out crawling at 7 months so he wasn't as cranky as DS1 was at same age (DS1 was just starting to crawl then). DS1 was way needier.

Then they get really needy just before they can stand / cruise. Then more independant. Then needy again just before walking. Then more independant... and so on .

And whatever their personalilty is too!

I think he's wanting to cruise. He can extended his body while up on his hands - arms extended - and at the base of our stairs, he can almost pull himself up to wear he's standing at the stairs/banister!!! DS1 didn't cruise until close to 9 months!

Juju is driving me crazy with her bossiness lately. She is scooting backwards, not crawling yet, and she definitely would rather be RUNNING. So she is very easily frustrated right now and wants Mommy ALL the time. She will play alone somewhat, but very vocal when she has decided she is DONE. This week I jokingly keep telling people, "This baby is BROKEN!" because I feel like she just won't chill-out if she's not in the sling. Hoping this is a phase... I don't really remember this with my other two children, but, then, it all kind of blurs together afterward anyway!

When dd was in that stage, I could sit her down with some toys and get 5-10 minutes before she decided she wanted to try to crawl and flopped on to her belly and complained about being stuck.

Since he's fine without toys, maybe you could add toys to the mix and get a bit more time?

This is why even though my back is killing me from chasing a crawler around all the time, I am so glad DD is crawling now. Before she could crawl, she would get so frustrated so quickly with being left alone. Toys did help for her, but eventually she would get tired of them and want to go somewhere else, but she couldn't do it herself. And while I could tell she definitely wanted to go somewhere, she also took awhile to figure out how to crawl at least compared to other areas of development, gross motor definitely seems to be her slowest for whatever reason right now anyway.

But yeah, nowadays she mostly gets frustrated because I am not letting her go somewhere or play with something, a whole different ballgame! So I guess my answer is this is totally normal for some babies.

My 7 month old won't stay put for more than 2 seconds! I put him down and he's rolling all over and trying to crawl. He gets fussy when he's had enough or is hungry or tired and then he's ready for a snuggle.

I do add toys and he just got some neat new ones at a garage sale this past weekend. So they are 'new' to him. With toys, it's the 10 mins...without, around 5 mins.
He's army crawling and quick, too, I might add. So we have to keep an eye on him constantly.
