fell off the bed!!!! i feel soooo bad...

i was folding/putting laundry away while dd2 was playing in front of me on the bed. i put pillows around her (enough i thought) & walked into dd1s room w/ a few items, set them down on dresser & walked back in just as dd2 was falling head & neck 1st off the bed. the sound she made when she hit was such a horrible thud. it was all in slow motion & i feel like i could have dove or something but i think i just stood there frozen for a moment.

she screamed & cried about 5 mins & is now nursing & asleep.

i always hear & advise others how their bodies are so able to take these falls & bang ups but right now i am so shaken up.

i just woke her up actually & she is either acting really cute or really goofy/messed up.

When DS was small I put him on a waterbed for one minute to let Dog outside. He almost immediately rolled off. I was devastated to say the least but he was fine, no ill effects. I am comfortable saying that practically every mother has had this happen to them. Do not beat yourself up mama. It happens. Sounds like she is fine.

This happened with my daughter too. I felt so bad, I was ready to call CPS on myself after it happened. DD was fine. She is three now, and completely normal.

Absolutely. I agree. In fact, it happened to my 7 month old DS this morning and he's just fine! They're so mobile, sometimes it's so hard to keep an eye on them at all times. Don't beat yourself up over it. It's happened to everyone, I'm sure!!

i feel better now too, because the same thing happened to us about 2 weeks ago. however, i do consider us very lucky as i've heard stories go the other way...i would just make sure there are no signs of concussion: vomiting, dilated eyes, drowsiness. maybe wake her up regularly is shes still asleep. also, if you see a chiropractor, i find it helpful so that nothing sets in the wrong place, necks especially. but thats just us, i know children are very sturdy and can adapt well! dont worry anymore

I remember the first time this happened, I was SO upset and thought I killed my baby. She was 6 months old and fell off our somewhat high bed right onto hardwood

She was fine! And it wasn't the last time it happened either. Don't worry!

Daniel rolled off the couch and fell about a foot and a half onto the floor when he was about 6 weeks old. I was devestated. The way he cried... ugh... I cringe just thinking about it. When I confessed (tearfully) what had happend to my mama friends they said basically that everyone does it, sometimes twice, and that they're surprised it hasn't happend sooner. Basically, if they eat, sleep, and act the way they usually do/appropriately then you're fine. My baby had a little bump that I think bothered him and after calling the pediatrician, I gave him some infant Tylenol and he felt much better.

Yup, btdt too! I think this happens to EVERY baby. Falling off of something is a right of passage.

This happened to us a few weeks ago when ds rolled off of his changing station about 3 ft. chest-first onto carpeted floor. I definitely cried longer than he did over the incident (and he turned out to be just fine too.)

I'm sure this has happened to ALL of us. Years ago my co-sleeping infant son fell off the bed and between the dresser/bed while I was sleeping, and I remember it being such a tragic event for me. I felt like such a horrible mother. But luckily he also cried/screamed, indicating no head injury.

Don't be hard on yourself or worry, babies are resilient!

V, who has crawled off the very high bed, fallen off the couch, fell off a chest we didn't know she could climb up on, just last night bit through her upper lip trying to walk.

I've been able to shake off her tumbles pretty easily, but watching all that blood pour out of her mouth was rough.

So, I guess to tell you, as I told my husband last night, "Stuff happens. And it'll get worse." Shockingly, it didn't make either of us feel any better.

I noticed your babe is the same age as mine. DS's birthday is 01/30/2010. He rolled off the bed over the summer and I felt horrible. I think that happens to just about every baby/parent.

When my oldest was either 3 or 4, I was at my teen sister's softball practice, waiting for them to finish up so I could drive her home. They had bleachers there, about 5 seats high. I was right there with her as she was climbing all over them. She climbed to the top and sat there, drinking from her sippy cup. And even though I was right there, she still suddenly lost her balance and fell backwards off the top bleacher, head first onto the concrete pad that the bleachers were bolted to. She wouldn't even let me look at her head, and wouldn't cry, she just kept repeating over and over "I wanna go home I wanna go home I wanna go home." I watched her really closely, even called the doc on call to be sure I knew just what to watch for and she ended up being fine.

And then, just like 2 months ago, even though I knew better, I let my 20 month old stand up in the grocery cart, I turned to grab something and she was head first over the end of the cart before I could catch her. She even bumped her head two more times the same day, I was afraid to let her nap, but she's totally fine too.

I actually dropped DS head first onto the floor at a restaurant recently. He only fell about a foot, onto a carpeted wooden floor, but the thud was quite loud. He forgave me after about a minute though and is just fine. I understand that falling off the bed is a rite of passage.

thx mamas! dh reminded me of the 1st time dd1 rolled off the bed & i guess it really is a rite of passage.

i feel like the personality of dd2 is going to mean i need to get used to injuries...she is already more daring & just "rough".
