Has anyone done Follistim without IUI??

Just found out today that our insurance does not cover anything fertility related if IUI or IVF is done…that includes all meds and ultrasounds. Before Follistim is covered by my insurance, a prior authorization form needs to be filled out by RE that states “yes” or “no” if meds will be used with IUI or IVF. So I called to see how much the meds cost without insurance. Wow! Very, very expensive!

So I was wondering if anyone has done Follistim without IUI. DH’s counts are very good. RE gave me only 1-2% chance success with Follistim doing IUI (or IVF with whatever meds those would be) using my eggs, so the problem is me not DH. Any thoughts??

Sounds crazy that they will cover the meds if you don't do an iui! The iui is the cheap part of it all. 2% sounds pretty low. Does your RE think you should go right to IVF?

This is our only chance to try something with insurance paying their part, we just pay copays/deductible. RE said there is no harm in trying. Our chance with IVF using my eggs is still 1-2% b/c my FSH 17 and AMH <0.01. Of course RE said IVF with DE gives best chance, 60-65%. DH and I won't do IVF with DE, so this is our last chance TTC. It will be a monitored cycle with u/s and estradial bld draws, after Follistim I will get a trigger shot of Ovidrel and then progesterone (Prometrium) after ovulation.
