Help my DS-Updated

I never post over here so please move if needed
My DS10 (and me) need your help
Some background:
For the past 2 weeks or so DS has been complaining about watery eyes and how it feels like 'something' is in his eye. I wrote it off as possible allergies (we have 2 dogs here), the seasons are starting to change in Arizona, AZ has horrible air, DS has asthma, and he is still getting adjusted to new glasses.
In his defense his eye was watery and slightly red and puffy at times. He was using a cold compress to help with the itchiness and he said that did work.

Today I picked him up from the sitter. We homeschool but he goes to a sitter/friends a couple hrs a day. Either I substitute teach or use that time for errands, planning etc. When I picked him up he told me he didnt eat his lunch, and he was almost in tears. (sometimes he eats what they have and thats fine but he never wont eat)

When we got to the car he told me his neck was in extreme pain and he can't really move it. Now that I look closer his eye is dripping some type of 'goop' and he looks really tired.

I had him take a shower when we got home to see if that helped, NOPE.

I have a 415 appt for myself (scar treatment) then I think we are going to head to the urgent care.

WTF is going on with DS?? his face looks 'hung over'. he can touch his chin to his chest, he can move his neck but I think there is pain somewhere... he looks awful.

Since you didnt mention it, I assume he doesn't have a fever?

Definitely take him to urgent care--the neck pain is worrisome indeed.

Thinking good thoughts....

Update:
I took DS to the kids urgentcare, We were there exactly at 5pm when they opened.
DS didnt complain of a temp but yes he was 101 so a temp added to the mix.
The dr. looked at me like I had 7 heads when I told him about the eye, then neck pain. Kinda like humor mom day.
Long story short after the DR actually looked at DS eye and saw the swelling and thing growing on the eye lid it was determined that DS has an eye infection.
Just to 'humor mom' again they did a strep test and again it was positive. DS has such a positive strep test and the pain is so bad his neck hurts!!

So DS has an eye infection AND major strep. We left with rx for abx and eye cream. Also taking tylenol.

Its gonna be a long night with a cranky 10 yr old...

Well, the good news is that both of those infections tend to respond fairly quickly to treatment, so your little boy should be back to his old self in a day or two

For future reference, I have come to understand that any kind of green/yellow goop in the eye means infection. At the very least eye infection, and could have been caused by another infection elsewhere in the body. FWIW.

I don't know about that. My DS has a moderate allergy to soy, and some fairly serious seasonal allergies, and when he's reacting to something, his eyes often run with yellow goop. So it is possible to have goopy eyes and no infection.

Also, sometimes when a kid gets very congested it can basically start draining from the eyes. Not really an infection, just a yucky manner of snot drainage. This happens to dd from time to time and the ped has never prescribed treatment (although suggested cream if it became a nuisance). So it's not always a serrious matter, although probably still something to get checked out.

THE EYE: I dont expect miracles over night however DS has something like a bump on his upper eye lid and its getting bigger. I used the cream last night which is susposed to work but today he seems worse. He is having trouble opening his eye.

Its not so much the draining from the eye that bothers me - that could be alleriges- its the pain and the bump on the eye lid..

His neck is still sore as well..
I think his fever is gone, he isnt complaining how cold it is lol

Needless to say i was less than impressed with the level of care from the dr at that particular kids urgent care. This gets one more day and if DS isnt on the mend by tomorrow pm I will call his DR. (you would think a kids urgent care dr would know how to relate to kids)

Update-
Sorry I haven't been back to this thread for a few days. Things have been super crazy here. Friday night I took DS back to the urgent care because of the following:
Tues pm we were at the kids urgent care and started on Zithromax
Weds ds started to get a rash that I didn't give any thought to. I was more concerned with his eye infection
Thursday DS was appearing better with the eye infection but the rash was still present, however the rash seemed no different than any other 'rash' ds gets when he is sick.
Friday things turned for the worse, DS woke up and was covered in something I could not identify. Benadryl for the past few days was obviously not working. His feet swelled up and his hands looked like they were swelling. I assumed this was an allergic rxn to the abx (which he's had many times before) but I didnt give it to him anymore and continued the benadryl and again assumed the rash would improve. By Friday night he still couldnt walk and the rash was worse-itchy. We went back around 9pm to the kids urgent care and had a much better Dr. Needless to say we didnt have to wait and went right back to a room. DS lost 4 lbs in 4 days!
He was definately having a SEVERE allergic rxn and also Scarlet Fever. He probably has SF because the ABX didn't work for the streph earlier in the week? When we were at the UC, the Dr. told us that she was calling the ER because the UC couldn't treat DS.
When we got to the ER they literally were waiting for us, we didnt have to wait, sign in, anything!. We went right back to a peds bed and DS started being monitored. Eventually, early Saturday AM -2am ish we were able to be released after heavy dosing of benadryl type meds, new ABX, and steroids.

I feel like the worlds worst mom for letting ds get so bad. I never thought he was having an allergic rxn, I never thought he has scarlet fever. Had I known I would've gone back to the Dr sooner...

I hope he is on the mend now and will be well soon. The rash seems a bit better and the swelling is gone.

I week ago had anyone told me this would happen, I never would've believed them!

Scarlet fever is just strep with a rash. Its the same thing, so going sooner or whatever wouldnt have made a difference. Both my boys have had SF several times. Its the classic sandpaper rash that gives it away. its treated the same way as strep though.Glad hes doing better!

I know... i just feel sooooo bad for ds...
Plus the allergic rxn didn't help any (thats what I feel so guilty about)

Today is a better day!

Hope he's feeling better. My dd had scarlet fever about a month ago. Ugh. I was really worried about abx reaction, too, as I have a severe penicillin allergy and dd had never taken abx before. I got a non-penicillin abx, just in case, but I still worried endlessly about it. Hopefully, he's on the mend now, though
