Fifth kidney infection in three years

Any ideas on why or how this keeps happening to me? I rarely have any symptoms leading up to them. I just randomly wake up hurting, sick as a dog, and peeing brown.

Today was one of those days and now I'm in bed feeling like crap, with a sore butt thanks to my antibiotic shots earlier. Thank goodness my dd went to her grandmas because there is no way that I could care for her right now.

I have no Idea.. But my mom gets them like every 6 months. You drink plenty of water? Are you on any Regukr medication, sometimes the medication can cause that type of reacation. Have you considered taking a pure cranberry supplement, have read this can help flush your kidneys.

True kidney infection and not UTI, right? Are the antibiotics prescribed to you to treat the kidney infection? Have you discussed w/the doc (your primary care provider) why you are getting these so frequently? Any underlying diabetes, autoimmune disease, etc...? Maybe you need a referral to a urologist...

Pure cranberry juice is not sold in the juice isle at your average grocery store. Most cranberry juices have apple and grape juice added even when it isn't marketed as cran-apple so be careful. You might try taking some probiotics. All those antibiotics the docs prescribe kill off all your good flora and you need that to fight off infection.

Have you had an ultrasound or CT of your kidneys? Sometimes structural abnormalities or other underlying issues can cause repeated infections.

I was just going to post the same thing. Both of my dd's have kidney reflux, which makes them more prone to infections. It's usually outgrown in childhood but some cases need surgical correction.

if you have chronic gut infections (can be low but chronic levels of yeast, bacteria, etc, such as in IBS) then it can make it harder for your body to fight bacteria in your urinary tract as well. First problem is usually the bladder and then it travels up to the kidneys. addressing the gut flora imbalance can really help. also cranberry D-mannose works better for me than regular cranberry pills. do you take any immune boosters/herbs?

I take really good probiotics daily (primal defense). Everyday I also take a liquid mineral supplement, multivitamin, Vit D, and Emergen-C packets. Sometimes I'll also eat some of my dd's Vit C pills. My diet is crap though and I mostly live off of Ensure drinks.

So I don't think the infections are from a lack of good probiotics. I am going to ask for a referral to someone else who can try and help though. My doctor has done blood work and ultrasounds and has not really found anything wrong. But I shouldn't be getting all these infections and it shouldn't hurt to pee for six years. So I want a second opinion.
