So how are you supposed to take antibiotics when you're too nauseous?

I have a kidney infection. It is making me very sick to my tummy. I'm taking phenergan to help control it, but I still feel too sick to try and down a pill. I mean I'm having issues with getting water down.

Any advice?

Ginger ale, peppermint tea, probiotics, ginger pills, and sea sick bands are not helping.

Go get an icepack or, even better, a can of frozen orange juice from the freezer. Hold onto it. Hold it until your hands ache and you feel like they might turn blue and fall off. Keep holding onto it. That might actually help with the nausea.

I know it sounds far-fetched, but I learned this trick when I was pregnant with ds (I had hyperemesis, but this was AFTER the major nausea left and I wasn't being hospitalized constantly; wish I would've known about it earlier). I was in a craft store with my mom and started to feel really really sick, like I might puke at any moment. I actually dry-heaved in a corner (way embarrassing). I bought a can of Coke in an attempt to settle my stomach, but I was worried that the store owners would be upset at me for opening it in the store, so I just carried it around with me. And after a few minutes, the nausea completely lifted and I could breathe deeply again. I was all, ?????? but I later learned that icing the hands is a trick of nurses that work on helicopter life flights when their patients get airsick.

So give that a try, and I hope you feel better.

Funny I use ice cubes in wash cloths all the time to help me with nausea! Figured that out during my first pregnancy. I didn't know that it was a tried and true trick.

I just waited until my tummy was better before taking the pill. Wasn't sure how else to do it. Thanks for the response though.

Can you ask your provider for a shot?

Yes I finally called my doctor at 7 tonight and told her that this just isn't going to work. So I go in tomorrow morning for another antibiotic shot. I think that's the only way this is going to happen. I have a very wimpy stomach but I'm ok with needles.

Thanks for the help everyone.
