acupuncture for morning sickness

anyone tried it?

im 15 weeks and at my wits end here! i've tried sea bands, preggie pop drops, morning sickness teas, eating like a horse, natural ginger ale.. nothing helps.. atleast not enough for me to keep using. the preggie pop drops are one thing that work.. but i wind up having to keep one in my mouth at all times for nausea to go away and eventually the roof of my mouth and tongue get sore
i'm not interested in zofran or any other pharma drug..

i've been thinking about acupuncture, but wanted to know more about your experiences with it.

I did acupuncture with my first pregnancy and now with this one. It helped with just about everything else, but did nothing for nausea.

The only thing that has really worked for me (tried: carbs, protein, eating hourly (which helps a tiny bit), ginger, milk thistle, dandelion, sea bands, wild yam extract, ginger ale, etc...) is unisom.

I tried it weekly for a few weeks but it didn't do much for me. I tried every natural remedy that anyone would suggest but finally had to go on Zofran.

But I've heard acupuncture is helpful for a lot of people so I would definitely try it! I think if you go weekly or even more often, your likely to see some results.

Protein is what worked best for me but I also (surprisingly!) found that legumes worked well. That's right = beans. Supposedly the ms is caused by excess bile your liver makes in response to hormones. And "bile binds to beans" and gets expelled.

sounds gross i know, but i just made up a bunch of bean burritos ahead of time and then popped them into the oven to heat up anytime I started getting sick. worked for me, hope it helps you.

FWIW, NOTHING else worked for me, not carbs, not ginger (barf), not sea bands, nothing other than protein and legumes.

Feel better mama! Maybe you're at the tail end of the ms...with my pregnancies I always felt better by around 16 weeks...fingers crossed

I have done acupuncture for many things (endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, fatigue) and have had GREAT success with it (in fact I think it is part of why I am PG as she worked on conception lines the cycle I got PG - I was on hormones too though). However. I pretty much felt no help for my morning sickness/all day sickness. One day I felt WORSE after I had it. My acu told me that for morning sickness, you really had to treat daily which most people can't afford, so she marked the spots on my arms and sent me home w/ a box of needles and showed my hubby how to put the needles in. My hubby needled me twice a day. It really didn't help.

The thing that DID help me some was a homeopathic remedy. I recommend getting the book Homeoepathic Medicine at Home by Dr Panos. She lists about 3-4 remedies and the rubrics for them. I couldn't tell you what I took b/c one of the other 3 remedies might be your remedy based on your symptoms. It didn't make me feel normal but it made it more tolerable for sure. I think I took 30x twice a day. and I did notice a difference if I didn't take it. If your health food store doesn't carry the remedy, you can order it from Washington Homeopathics ( www.homeopathyworks.com ).

I find this TOTALLY fascinating. I have completely CRAVED beans through this whole all-day sickness. Even at 18 1/2 weeks, meat makes me want to hurl but I love hummus, bean salad, bean burritos. I have split pea soup in the crockpot right now.

hmmmmm beans! the idea of beans doesn't make me gag, so i think i'll try it! any legumes in particular or do you just have a field day with as many different kinds as you can?

i know my protein levels are way down.. im vegetarian for one, and since m/s started i want nothing but starchy carbs. the first few weeks i didnt even want to eat vegetables or fruits! finally im getting over that hurdle.. but trying to add foods back into my diet that won't make me sick is tough..

thank you ladies so much for your input on acupuncture! i think i may still try it to see if it helps and if nothing else i hope to get some energy from it.. lord knows i still haven't had that mythological burst of 2nd trimester energy yet. i'm really really really hoping that it lets up at 16weeks. when it first started i hoped it would be over by week 8, then trimester 2, now 16 weeks is the magical date hopefully! i've been let down so many times though i've accepted that i may very well be feeling like crap until march

I've used accupuncture for other things related to pregnancy (backache, headaches, high blood pressure, depression) but not ms. The only thing that helped me was a homeopathic remedy - phosphorus tablets (also supplement called Phosfood from Standard Process). Someone else mentioned this already, but you usually should speak with a homeopathic doc and have them prescribe you a specific remedy to meet your symptoms. This remedy made all the difference for me!

I got to that point when I was pregnant as well. TBH, while the nausea did eventually go, I never felt great. And I never got the 2nd trimester energy/feel good thing. On the plus side, I felt *great* after she was born.

Accupuncture didn't work for me either but I did find lemon juice in cold water useful sometimes. I *did* have a yucky taste in my mouth all the time though so maybe that was why.

I had an acupuncture treatment and it only seemed to help for about 24 hours, but he also gave me some little metal balls on stickers (don't know what they are called, sorry) that you put basically at the same spot as seabands. It definitely helped, and that was after seabands didn't work for me. He also gave me herbs which helped a bit, but I'd say out of the three it was the little stickers that worked best.
