I am getting over an acute herpes infection (the oral kind) that has really taken a toll on me. Since it was my first exposure to the virus, I had a fever for 5 days, and mouth sores that prevented me from eating for 7 days. Even now (day 9), I can only eat very soft foods because my gums are still so inflamed. I lost 10 pounds in 6 days, and I am nursing my 22 month old DD. My milk supply suffered, although it seems to have improved now that I can eat soft foods.

I still feel terrible. I am alternately taking advil and tylenol every 6 hours, to help with the mouth pain so that at least I can handle the soft foods. I have a funny feeling when I breathe in too deep. I still feel pretty weak, and really not myself at all.

What kinds of foods/supplements can I take, that will help me at this point in the illness, to help restore everything that must be way out of balance from such a dramatic weight loss?

I cannot eat a lot of foods due to nursing dd's allergies. These include: eggs, gluten, potatoes, beef, dairy, nuts.
