First Trimester Sleep trouble

Thread Starter
I am 11 weeks and have had trouble sleeping throughout my entire first trimester. I will wake up in the middle of the night and stay awake for up to a couple hours. Does anyone know if this is normal, or why it occurs? I'm not anxious or overly caffeinated.
I would think since I'm so exhausted the rest of the day that I should be sleeping like a rock!
Any info or suggestions are appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it's normal...it happened to me probably all of my first trimester which is weird cause you spend the first tri so tired that you can't wait to go to sleep then when you have a chance you're up half the night grrr...now that i'm in my second tri i find that im sleeping much more soundly and all night (usually i do have a toddler)

I'm right there with ya! I am falling asleep at 7:00 but keep myself up to 9:00 in hopes of sleeping through the night. But when 1 or 2 rolls around BOOM, I wake up and toss and turn.

The nights I don't have the back hurting or I don't wake up more than once to visit the restroom I'm okay. The other nights not so much.

Yup, I had teeeeerrible insomnia in my first trimester. I remember waking up and being sooo hot and not being able to cool myself down. Then I would lay there for hours trying to sleep. Or I'd go to bed at 10 or so, then wake up at midnight wide awake. Ugh, miserable.

I had it really bad from the moment I found out I was pregnant (before, actually) until just recently. It seems to be doing better now, although I still wake up more frequently than I ever did pre-pregnancy.
