Yeasties taking over

Hi mamas,

For 3 weeks, I've had a rash under my bra line that itches so bad! It also runs along the sides of my breasts where my bra touches and my armpits are itchy. Almost two weeks ago, I ended up with a vag yeast infection that didn't respond to my natural stuff, so I'm on day 6 of treatment and it seems mostly gone.

Yeast is not normally a problem for me, so this is really weird. How can I treat the skin yeast while pregnant and how can I keep the yeasties from returning to all places?'

Thanks!

With my last pregnancy I got some yeast on my neck and used an over the counter vag ointment--clotrimazole?? My midwife also told me that I could use Seltsen Blue. Sounded weird to me, but I suppose is more natural-ish?

We also use coconut oil on not-so-bad skin/diaper yeast.

I don't know how to keep it from coming back, though...I've read a lot of stuff, but I'm not sure about all of it.

I've heard that bathing with a cup or two of apple cider vinegar in the water can help, but I haven't actually tried it. I'm looking for personal experience from other people first because I don't want to smell like ACV if it doesn't actually work.

clotrimazole is what i was just given for a vaginal YI. i had pretty strong antibiotics for pneumonia, and this followed. lucky me anyway, clotrimazole also comes in a cream that you can use externally.

nystatin also can be used on the skin but i don't think it's used vaginally. i've used it for nipple thrush and a yeasty diaper rash.

the apple cider vinegar would help, i imagine.. i haven't tried it but it'll acidify the vaginal area, which is part of what keeps bacteria/yeast in balance. i think pregnancy can upset that balance and lead to a pH change in vaginal fluid, making it more likely you'll get a YI.

All of the above are great suggestions (i personally would go straight for the Monistat).

Once you get it cleared up, remember to dry the area thouroughly when you get out of the shower, and to try and wear breathable fabrics over the area as much as possible. Yeast grows in moist areas, so preventing moisture can help to make sure you aren't dealing with this all the way through your pregnancy!

It sounds frustrating - hopefully it clears up soon!
