Comic Books for 7 year old?

Any suggestions? DS loves the Calvin and Hobbes comic books (even though some of them are not all that appropriate but ds doesn't *get* those inappropriate parts). He's asking for more comic books but I'm not sure what's appropriate for him. Ideas?

Has he read Captain Underpants yet? Very funny! My son also loves the Clone Wars Adventures. These are based on the TV show (I guess? We have never seen the TV show). They are a bit mixed, but he loves them and apparently they are funny because they really make him laugh.

My DS is obsessed with Garfield. (And also loves C&H.) And the library has zillions of them. I'm not sure I see the appeal, but they seem pretty harmless.

Have you seen Phonics Comics? They're really cute and come on several different reading levels. There are also quite a few "genres" (superhero, mystery, silly etc) so I'm sure there's a few that your DS would find appealing.

My son was crazy about Tintin. And there are lots of them.

I was going to suggest Garfield too. Dd has recently gotten pretty into it.

We haven't read it yet, but a couple of different friends have read Bone with their kids and say it's awesome!

Thanks for all the ideas!!! I'll be heading to the library to check them out first before I decide which ones I'll get for him

We are heavily into comics and graphic novels here. My similar aged son loves Tiny Titans, and any of the str wars comics-we find them in book form. DC and Marvel also have old school comics that are rated specifically for younger kids. We go weekly to get a new comic book-it's a highlight of the week to spend time picking it out.

OOK and Glug is a graphic novel he might like. Also, there is a slightly more challenging comic/graphic novel called The Secret Science Alliance, whcih is a lot of fun if you have a scienc-y type kiddo.

My sister just got my son a copy of The Bad Book, which I actually like a lot because everyone has an inner Bad Guy who needs to be acknowledged (DH doesn't like it). Also, Fungus the Bogeyman by Raymond Briggs is a great one, more of a graphic novel than a comic, but good. It is wonderful for the gross-out factor.

Owlie is a real charmer for that age group. Bone and Saltwater Taffy are also good choices, and there are reprints of the classic Disney comics with Scrooge McDuck and so forth that are great!

Bone rocks

the Bone series is so awesome -- we just finished all 9 books (mom and 6 yo boy) both of us really sucked in. I thought that the story was best in the middle of the series, but all were good, and the illustrations are very well done

It's old school, but you can probably get them super cheap. Groo The Wanderer. If you have a geek husband who was super into comics as a kid, he probably has read them.
