Help! Tiny red bumps all over DS body

My 14 month old has tiny dull red bumps all over his body. Yesterday (Tuesday) they were just on his trunk. This morning they were on his face and this afternoon they were also on his legs. He had a low fever and out of sorts on Monday. Fine all day yesterday but last night was horrible. He was up screaming in pain almost all night. It was awful. Nothing worse then having your child in pain and not knowing how to help them. Seemed like his tummy was bothering him. So, I put a hot water bottle on it while he rocked with daddy. He did fall asleep for a few hours at a time. Now today he is fine but cranky - (I am too after not much sleep.)

Anyway, I have read up on all the normal childhood rashes but none sound like this. It sounds most like heat rash but it has been 65 in our house all week, certainly not hot! Wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Any homeopathic ideas?

Thanks!

Our DS1 (4 y.o.) just came down with something similar - including having a fever & sore throat too. I'm chalking it up to hand, foot, mouth at this point and waiting for it to resolve.

DH wants to believe its CP, but the bumps are more rash-like than pox-like.

Chicken pox usually starts on the trunk and spreads. It also comes with a low fever, but I've never heard it make a child scream in pain.

Scarlet fever? That's a streptococcus infection. Does it feel sandpapery? That comes with a very sore throat and swollen glands. It's usually treated with antibiotics. It can sometimes very occasionally progress to rheumatic fever if not treated. But that usually starts on the face and neck, and the fever is usually higher.

I dunno. I'm just grasping at straws, really-- if you've read up on the usual rashes, you've probably covered those.

Scarlet fever?
That was my first thought. Dd had it about a month ago. Started with a sore throat and fever, and then a heat rash type rash on her chest and stomach. It didn't itch or spread. The next day the strep test came back positive and the doctor said something about scarlet fever, but with an atypical rash? Her tongue was also covered in white with little red dots--just something to check for.

If the fever has cleared up I would probably guess roseola, with possibly some accompanying gas or stomach upset from simply being ill. Although obviously better to check with your practitioner to be sure it's not more serious.

We have similar on the torso right now...no fever though. We were around a grandparent who had what seemed like very bad cold symptoms on Fri/Sat, and dh and I (but not our two older kids) came down with milder colds on Sunday and Monday. 18-month old had a sneezy, runny nose for abt 12 hours on Monday and now the rash. I'm thinking random virus?

Sounds like it could possibly be Hand, Foot & Mouth. Dd2 had it a few months ago and gave it to me and I can honestly say it was one of the most painful illnesses I've ever had. My throat felt like I had strep and the blisters on my hf&m hurt. Chewing and swallowing was really painful. Add in the fever and I was just miserable.

Thanks for all the replies. Last night he slept good (like normal) Yeah! Today his mood is normal, happy go lucky as usual. He does still have all the bumps but he seems just fine. I talked with the nurse on call and she said since it doesn't sound like any of the normal illnesses that it is just a viral rash. So, we'll just let it take its course. He's back to his happy self so that is good.
