Advice about Pregnancy and Breastfeeding/Weaning

Hi everyone,

I posted a few months ago about advice about weaning my then 22 month old. He has just turned two and I found out on his second birthday that I'm pregnant!!

When I asked for advice, some of you mentioned milk changing during pregnancy, sometimes milk drying up during pregnancy, and nursing aversion. I can't seem to find much information on this online, so can you help me? I don't want DS to all of a sudden not have milk to drink as I still want to wean him gradually so it's not traumatic. When does your milk change or dry up during pregnancy? If you experienced nursing aversion, when did that start for you?

I am 5 weeks currently and he nurses morning, nap time and to go to sleep at night.

I would like to wean him in the next 2-3 months so that I get a little bit of a "boob break" (LOL) before the new baby arrives.

Can anyone give me some information or share their experience?

Thanks!
Mikol

Your supply can drop anytime from 1-4 months, and some women will dry up no matter what they do, while others will be able to continue with a lower milk supply or sometimes even no change in their supply. Things like sore nipples can start before a positive test, though not necessarily. I'm 6 weeks and so far only a mild discomfort at latch-on, and not every time. If you haven't, see if you can find a copy of "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" - even if you're planning on weaning there's a lot of information on nursing during pregnancy.
