Abby's Lane or Green Mountain Diapers.

Both Abby's Lane and Green Mountain Diapers have everything I want to buy for this new DC. I never did the whole baby shower thing with DC but I am planning on doing it this time around and registering for diaper supplies. It's quite early but so much fun! I'm going to use Amazon universal registry.

I LOVE the Green Mountain site but it's not user friendly for registering AT ALL. Not though Amazon or through the service they use (which I don't like anyway). I really do love the site though but don't want to inconvenience the people nice enough to buy us a gift, yk?

Abby's Lane seems a bit more modern in the technology and they have everything I want but it doesn't have the same cozy feel as Green Mountain Diapers.

I'm having trouble making up my mind so I though I'd ask for your input.

What I'm registering for are some flats, prefolds, Thirsty covers, some wool covers and wipes as well as a few miscellaneous things like wet bags, snappies and stuff like that.

Also for consideration, I imagine I will need/want to exchange a few things because had a diaper service with DC and didn't really venture very far into the world of fancy covers and all of that -- so I'm "new".

Thanks for you help!

Darn! I just realized one other con for GMD - they charge $6.95 for each item. I imagine a lot of people will buy just one or two things out of about 15, which means a WHOLE lot of $$ going to shipping.

Abby's Lane is free shipping (I'm in the US).

That's a pretty big consideration.

Does anyone know of a thread or have an opinion that compares GMD to Diaper Rite? I seem to recall reading that they were pretty similar in quality.

Thanks!!

Well, I love gmd's flats and prefolds but otherwise abby's lane is where its at. I've bought a ton of stuff from her and really like the service.

Since you are registering, I'd go for abby's lane since she has the free shippingwhich will be nice for everyone gifting you. I'm sure they'll love that.

I know nothing about the quality of the flats/prefolds on abby's lane but I can't imagine they would be too horrible anyway.

I just ordered through Abby's Lane a couple of weeks ago and they were fantastic. The shipping was really fast, plus Stephanie (the owner) was super helpful when I emailed with some questions.

I have a 5% off code that's good for an entire order—not sure if I should post it on here, but if you want it I'll be glad to share if you PM.

I've ordered from Abby's Lane several times and always have good service.

Macandcheese -- thanks for the wonderful offer!! That really is super sweet of you. If it looks like we'll be making a big order in the near future I'll be sure to PM you. Thank you!

It looks like Abby's Lane may work better for us. Because I do want to support Green Mountain Diapers as well (because there site is so imformative) maybe I'll just do my shopping there but register through Abby's Lane.

I'm still wide open for more opinions/suggestions.

Thanks again!

One consideration would be to register for all but the flats and prefolds at Abby's Lane - I have no direct experience yet (my NB is due in a few weeks) but there has been rave upon rave for the quality and durability of the flats/prefolds at GMD. I don't know how many you had planned to purchase - but if was only a dozen of each you could do that on your own. If not you could put those on the GMD site as purchase of a dozen each (which is still pretty reasonable) and then the shipping is better justified. Enjoy!

I don't know about the durability of the Diaper Rite prefolds at Abby's Lane, but I've heard that their sizing is great, just like the prefolds at GMD. Apparently they're pretty comparable in that respect at least. You can do a Google search on them or look on DiaperSwappers, they seem to get discussed there a lot.

I LOVE Abbys Lane! I do buy my PFs from GMD but if I was registering I would go the Abbys lane all the way... free shipping, easy to use and great customer service.

I've also had great service from Abby's Lane. (No experience with GMD.)

If you are a facebook user, I've learned that if you "like" some of your favorite diaper stores, then they often announce discount codes and other deals.

Abby's Lane also has a yahoo group and the owner sends a weekly email that often has a coupon code and some diapering tips.

This is exactly what I did. I really wanted GMD prefolds based on what I read and what my friends said, so I added those to my Amazon registry and added everything else from Abby's. I ended up ordering from GMD myself - everyone bought from Abby's and I'm sure a big part of the decision was the shipping.

I've bought twice from GMD and multiple times from Abby's and have had excellent service (both email communication, help and fast shipping) from both.

If you join Abby's yahoo group (link on her home page) you get the code for 5% and she often posts specials on her Facebook page.

Well, it seems pretty settled - that's what I'm going to do. I'll do the flats and PFs from GMD and likely do Abby's Lane for the rest. I do wish I could find something like Abby's Lane that also carried some WAHM type shorties and stuff like that but it looks like I can do Amazon Universal Registry for Etsy, which is cool - though I know I'll have to wait until just before the shower for any one of a kind items.

Thanks for all your help!

I love GMD and was loyal to them for a long time, but now my favorite place to buy diapers is softandcozybaby.com. I've never shopped at Abby's Lane so I don't know how they are, but it seems like you know what your'e going to do. I'd like to try diaper rite prefolds too, they look pretty comparable to GMD!

I'm in Baltimore so I'll be using softandcosybaby for local registry for sure. Unfortunately, their on-line registry is on a major delay (I applied for a registry weeks ago and it's still not up yet). But, yes, we will be using them as a local source but probably not for on-line. Ironically, Abby's Lane is a DC company so we have 2 good ones in the area.
