Ciprofloxacin HCl?

I haven't taken an antibiotic in years and years. I have a bad kidney infection again and I was prescribed cipro for it. Since I feel so sick and I don't time to treat this only naturally, I'd like to take the antibiotic this time.

It took me a day to work up the nerve, and I finally took the first pill. But now I'm scared to death. There are horror stories all over the net about Cipro.

Since starting it my throat feels itchy/weird...but otherwise I think I'm ok so far.

Has anyone taken this antibiotic and survived?

I'm scared to continue it at this point...

(Sorry to be posting so much in this forum lately).

I'm not going to say much reassuring. I took cipro for a *possible* infected poison ivy outbreak (Don't ask; I don't want to go there. It was 15 yrs ago. Yes, the PI looked nasty, but it was not infected). That was in December )of...94?). All through the spring of 95, I was sick. Walking pneumonia, 2 UTIs (one with bleeding upon urination that sent me to the ER because the student health service wasn't open on the weekend). I had never had a UTI. They blamed it on me not peeing after sex. I had yeast infection after yeast infection for at least 5+ years. (This was before I knew much about probiotics, although I was guzzling plain yogurt all through those times. It was also well before I knew about using garlic for yeast. I was buying those OTC things ALL the freaking time.)

I survived, but I would have been better off if I knew then what I know now. (especially about recolonizing the gut with good bacteria - and taking the probiotics WHILE you are taking the cipro, but not at the same time.)

Can they colonize it - or whatever it is called when they grow a sample - and give you a targeted antibiotic?

Well I'm already having all the tendon pain that they warn people about with Cipro. I'm sure it's real pain and not in my head, it's even a bit hard to move around cause of it. Plus it made my throat too itchy for my comfort. So I'm not going to take anymore and tomorrow I go in for an antibiotic shot (and then I think I'm done with the antibiotics?)

Thank goodness I learned about the importance of probiotics years ago on MDC. I know I'm good with that at least. I've always had good luck with garlic and vinegar for yeast issues, so hopefully that won't be a problem.

Thanks for the honest response. I think my gut and my research are both telling me NO to this drug and I'm going to listen.
