My poor baby boy has suffered so much over this recall

I dont know if you heard about the Similac recall but I had a can that was recalled. I just happen to stumble across it on the internet about it. After weeks of him crying from a gasy belly I realize now whats been the cause of it. The recall was from actual beetle parts found in cans of formula. Over 5mil recalled

He's been to the Dr twice for it and now is on zantac for his reflux. Im so pissed off at this company. How could they let this happen? I try so hard to be clean with my hands and his bottles and to find out his formula had bug parts in it makes me want to really hurt someone!!

Now my poor baby hurts thru almost every feeding to the point he claws at his face in pain! Cries on and off all day. Not to mention he has a belly button hernia that started out small but from all the pain and crying its stuck out as far as his skin can stretch. Which Dr informs me today may have to be surgically repaired down the road.

This poor child has been thru so much. He's a preemie so Im even more worried about him and what the long term affects are going to be....

Thanks for letting me vent . . Im at my wits end, stressed and exhausted. Thank God for mothers!

sorry you are going through this... sounds like the clean similac is still hurting his tummy.. have you thought about trying a different kind?

I agree. I have heard of a lot of moms who have more success with the Gerber Good Start Gentle rather than Similac. If you switch, give it a few days to see how he does before deciding that particular formula is or isn't working. Some babies also do better with premixed vs. powder. Also, you can put a couple drops of Mylicon in his bottle to help out with gassiness. It is NO FUN having a fussy newborn.

Yeah we've tried the premixed and enfamil for fussy and gassy babies - didnt help. Dr said since he's a preemie he may have been taken off the Neosure for preemies too soon. So we're back on the Neosure until he's 6months old.

Im a first time mother and it brakes my heart to watch him suffer thru this. Theres been times where I had to hand him over to DH in tears. I keep telling myself "this too shall pass" hope its real soon . . like today

Oh mama. I'm so so sorry. I heard about the recall. It's so disturbing. But like the pp said, the formula may have upset his tummy even if it wasn't contaminated. Not that there's any excuse for selling tainted formula. I just don't want you to beat yourself up. Many babies have difficulty finding the right formula that doesn't cause reflux.

It's horrible seeing your little one in pain. Once you give birth, you forever where your heart on the outside and it's miserable.

I have a friend who's son was affected by this, too. No digestion problems, but it's still upsetting to have trusted a company with something as important as your baby's food supply, only to find out they weren't be careful.

Have you looked into donated breastmilk? I'm wondering if, with the preemie status AND the digestion issues, you'd qualify to get some? Or maybe you could find a local mom who would be willing to donate (through friends or finding your tribe forums?)

We had big problems with formula for dd's adjustment here...she was used to Korean formula, and we spent two months on the rollercoaster of digestion, colic?, reflux?, etc....NO FUN. She was so fussy and upset and impossible to comfort...I've never been so stressed out and sleep-deprived in my life! Anyway, all of that was to say that we were pretty close to asking for donated breastmilk ourselves. Instead we found a friend (through MDC! ) who could ship us her old formula from Korea, and that ended up helping. It was a long road, though, and I want to send you lots of hugs and support. I hope you turn a corner soon.
