Don't tell my dh that. I'm still trying to convince him to let us move to Canada.

Wow! I've never bought a snow suit for our kids. I usually get a winter jacket on sale for about $25 each (the ones I bought last year was like$14), and a separate pair of black snow pants (matches anything) on sale for $15 each. I sometimes grab an extra winter jacket in case they lose theirs. (My kids lose stuff all the time.) How cold does it get over there? I suppose those expensive ones are down-filled?

I am in MN and we like Land's End, too! I have gotten great deals on parkas there and I love their snowpants. For boots, I love Tundra brand (made in CA!). Dd is outside in the winter for a minimum of half an hour as long as it's close to 0. I am expecting that now that she's older she'll be out for longer.

Just move to lower mainland BC and you'll be fine. It's wet, but not very cold (versus the rest of Canada!).
