How much "awake and happy" time for 6 week old?

Yes, this is baby #3 and I STILL don't know what I'm doing...lol. It's been a long time since I've had a newborn so that's my excuse...lol.

Anyways, dd will be 6 weeks tomorrow and she still doesn't seem to have much awake time that is...um..."happy"? If she isn't on the boob, she's fussing or asleep. Naps are about 1 hour long throughout the day...sometimes in cosleeper, sometimes in the swing, lots of times in arms or in the sling.

So....is this normal? I don't remember my other two fussing this much. I mean, she has maybe 10 minutes ( and I'm being generous here) of cooing and looking at me while I talk to her and then that's it! Is this what I hear people calling a "high needs" baby?

And I'm mostly just curious that this can be normal. I'm okay with holding and nursing her constantly...she's my sweet rainbow baby!

Seems normal to me!

Seems way too early to be labeling her as "high needs," all she should be doing is eat, sleep and poop at this point, am I right?!

totally normal.. I think mine seemed content for like 2-5 mintues when shes popped off the boob then it was time to start again. ...
It didn't last long the time will go FAST..

Sounds just like my 6 week old too! The awake and "happy" (by which I mean, not fussy) times are pretty short right now. He is just starting to make more of an effort to smile at us, but it has to be on his terms. And it's only for a few fleeting seconds at a time. We're slowly getting more alert non-fussy time, but it's coming very slowly.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for replying and reassuring me that what I'm experiencing is NORMAL!! It's only been 5 years but I really can't remember how ds and dd were at this age. She has started to coo and give us a few smiles, but that's it. My poor 5 year old and 8 year old are VERY disappointed in how "boring" she is....lol. I keep telling her that she'll be loads of fun at 4 months old when they can make her laugh and hand her toys and talk to her more. But right now as my ds told our friend, " All momma does is sit on the couch and nurse Genevieve...seriously...that's all she does all day long!!!" Gotta love kids!
