therapies for back injury/depression

Hi All- a dear friend was hit by a car 18 months ago and is still in tremendous back pain. MRIs show there is still some injury and it has actually gotten worse! He's on so much medicine and got depressed and burned himself twice, so now he is also on an anti-depressant which is not be working anymore-- he thinks the meds and pain are causing him to be bipolar. Talk about a downward spiral!

He seems to have 2 problems-- the back pain and the depression. Are there any therapies (acupuncture etc) that he could try in conjuction with his western medical care? How could I find a legit practitioner (website link much appreciated!)? Lastly, I'm in the DC metro area if anyone knows of anyone in particular who he could see.

Thanks!

A chiro can still help. There are many herbs he can take for depression (valerian, passion flower, st johns wort, etc) and he may have stressed adrenals. B vitamins then would be helpful along with correct sleeping and some herbs to support adrenal health as well. There are flower essences for depression. Depending on his type of depression he may benefit from sweet chestnut, wild rose, gentian or mustard.

In peace & health,

I have never tried it personally, but went to a workshop years ago on Reiki. It is an approach that deals with mind/body healing. He may have emotional trauma due to the accident that is preventing the physical healing. Try doing a search for your area. You may find a Chiro familiar with the technique, which would help with insurance coverage.
