Biting

Is anyone having issues with their toddler and biting? My son has started this whole biting phase and I've gotten 2 phone calls from daycare about him biting. He's only 2 but I'm at a loss for how to deal with this. I've tried talking to him but that's not doing anything.

Turns out he and another child were fighting over a toy and he bit the child when he wouldn't give the toy up. I don't want him to get kicked out of daycare for biting but I dont know what to do.

Suggestions?

What is your daycare's policy on biting? At 2 biting is normal. IMO he needs to be shadowed closely and given lots of alternatives, encouraged to speak or use other ways to communicate.
