Non stop contractions

Can anybody more knowlegeable than me tell me when does it happen?

I'm trying to go through my first birth, to anticipate possible problems for my next labor (I'm 21 weeks pregnant now).
With my DS my water broke at around midnight and I immediately called my midwife. She said to go back to sleep and that things could take a while to start going. 10 minutes I called her again because I was really in pain. Only after talking to her, I realized that what I was experiencing where actual contractions! They were so closed that it was not what I was expecting and didn't understand straight away that they were contractions.
I remember a huge pressure and a strong need to push and push.
Basically contractions were lasting 1-1.5 minutes and coming back every 40 seconds and it was like that from beginning to when I fully dilated. DS was posterior and I've been told asynclitic. I'm trying to go through my midwife notes but I'm having an hard time understanding her writing. I'm pretty sure that at a certain point he turned but stayed still posterior. I can read that at 6:20 (so about 6 hours later my water broke) he was at -2 and that I was 5 dm dilated, at 7:30 I was at 7 cm + head 1 (?) spines (I guess above spines, not sure). At 11:30 after VE midwife says I have an anterior lip (what's that?) and that I should get into a left lateral position to reduce urges (not sure I read correctly) to push. At 1:30 I was full dilated and but head still OT. At 2:30 pm, still head posterior and no sign of discent. I had the epidural only 12:30 but it didn't work I had re-sited at 13:40.
I ended up in a CS at 15:30.
I think what really made it hard for me to cope, or even trying different positions were the conctractions so close to each other and pain was so intense that I could only be standing.

I'm really scared something like this could repeat itself.
I'll check with a chiropractor and/or an osteopath.

Any thought or suggestion is highly appreciated.

sorry you had a rough time of it last time. I'm pretty sure anterior lip is referring to your cervix not being completely out of the way. Have you been doing things in this pregnancy to try to prevent a posterior baby position? (like avoiding reclining chairs, getting on hands-and-knees ect) The spinningbabies website has alot of info about it. I've never been to a chiro but have heard lots of good things about them so it is worth a shot.

I've never had contractions without my water being broke (1st w/ AROM and pitocin, 2nd w/ PROM ) but I've heard it said that the contractions hurt worse with ruptured membranes. And the baby can get stuck in a bad position if the membranes are ruptured too soon, making it hard for them to get in the right position for birthing. Maybe that is what happened to you. I don't know about the non stop contractions... if your babe hadn't been posterior/asynclitic you probably would have been one of those ladies with a fast and furious (short!) delivery Are you looking into anything to help with pain relief during labor? I did hypnobabies but my doula really helped me keep focused and not freak out during the contractions- it helped alot.

Good luck!

I'm still at 21 weeks, so I guess I've still some time to exercise...I'll follow suggestions on spinningbabies.com and I've seen there recommanded a couple more books that could help.

Last time I tried to avoid bad habits and I was using a ball to sit. The baby was anterior for the full month prior to birth. LOA all the time except the day before my water broke were he was LOL. That night I had sex and I'm very convinced that he turned that moment to posterior because I had a clear sensation of him turning. In fact, this time I said to my husband, I'll absolutely avoid sex around birth! I think I thought I was speading up things but I'm really convinced that he turned because of it.

I don't think a had a premature rupture of membranes, because, immediately contractions started. I was almost at term, couple days earlier...

I did hypnobirthing but I was so caught by surprise (and intense pain) that I didn't even used anything I learned. Likely I'll give a try this time with hypnobabies.

Thanks a lot Lisa
