Not living in the US, I am not sure if I 'eligible'. Are there any other mama's not in the Americas? An international sms is certainly within my budget, if anyone else is up to it.

Well if cell phones aren't an option because of distance there's facebook too. I'm not sure about elsewhere but here you can update your status by text message and get text message updates when other people update (not everyone, just the person you choose).

Good point Megan, we'll have to see if we have any other international mamas or if someone has FB on their phone to do it that way. We'll figure something out!!!

Great - I am a sporadic facebook user - but I can fix that My phone is a super simple one that rings and sends text messages and that is it But I do have my laptop at the ready.

Skype is an option

Location is not an issue with Skype or FB.

The problem with skype is that you can't update as well when you're not home and it only works if BOTH parties are logged on. Cell phones can call and text locally and facebook can be updated via text.

MY GREAT IDEA

Would anyone be seriously opposed to Twitter? I don't have one since I always thought it was a little weird but if we all 'followed' each other it would make getting the updates out VERY easy. Then we could still be relatively anonymus and there's absolutely no distance issues at all!!

I'd rather not sign up for a Twitter account.

Does everyone on here have a Facebook account? We can start our own group on Facebook.

I have a twitter account! I actually created it at the beginning of this pregnancy with the idea of live tweeting the birth! I figure I will just have hubby take over when things get too intense. I'll post my twitter name or whatever when it's time

I have facebook but I need to make a Twitter if we're going to use it.

personally, i won't join twitter, i just really don't want to.

i figure that if you want to/can be online during labor everyone is welcome to start their own thread or jump in with updates as they can. this would really be for someone that didn't want to be online, didn't have a laptop and was in a different room, didn't had access at hospital, etc. anyone wanting to post and update throughout labor certainly still could!

Yeah mabye the facebook group would defeat the purpose, lol. It kind of sucks that Twitcher has such a bad rap.

Yeah, I would still like to have a birth buddy even though I hope to be tweeting during the birth. You just never know what might happen and tbh I'm not sure dh even knows how to tweet from my phone Plus, if we do end up transferring or something, it would be much easier to text someone.

FTR, you don't have to join twitter to read someone's tweets. I just want to be sure everyone knows this, so that in case some of us are able to tweet, everyone knows they can follow us w/o joining

As far as I knew Twitter was through mainly through text messaging and the computer side was secondary.

Count me in. I know nothing of Twitter though....but I love the idea of holding space for each other.
