Fifth month of Potty Traing and SETBACK?

My two and a half year old DS has been potty trained completely, even at night, since the beginning of June. Recently, he has begun going just a little bit in his pants right before he needs to go then he'll say, "Oh! I need to go potty!" But then he won't go! He won't go when he gets up in th mornings or after naps either for a loooonnng time but he'll tell us he has to go. Almost every day recently, we'll be in the car and he'll tell me or my mom, or my husband, "Oh! I need to go potty!" When we get home, he won't go. When he finally goes, in the morning or after the car ride, he just goes and goes- a lot of pee!

He had a bout with diarrhea over the weekend...it was on the tail end of a virus with a fever. Could this have something to do with it?

I checked his urine with a UTI test strip but there was not a trace of infection!

What's happening? How can we help him?

I'm getting nervous...

Yep, we're there too. Apparently it's not at all unusual...
DS won't say he needs to go unless we are in public. At home he will say something like, "I don't need to pee" or "I didn't pee my underwear" just out of the blue. Which means he needs to go. (I figure if he's thinking about it, there must be a reason.)

So whenever he brings up pee at all, I just say, "Hey, why don't you go peepee?" And he immediately starts crying like I just told him he was a horrible person and should just go to bed NOW. It's so sad. And exhausting to fight about... I have no idea how long this phase is supposed to last, but hopefully not much longer!

Mine does this sometimes too! He has been in underwear full-time for about 2 months and just recently he's started peeing a bit and then either announcing that he needs to pee or refusing to go to the potty and crying about it.

Also, when he needs to pee in the middle of the night he pees a bit in his pants and kicks and kicks and rolls around and cries in his sleep but when my husband picks him up to take him to the potty he FLIPS OUT the whole time he is going pee. It's insane.

This is from a kid who had NO pressure at all to potty learn and just did it on his own one day. He also does not want to wear diapers again. I'm super confused but just figuring it will pass?

I guess no one really has any advice for us, mamas. Oh well. This too shall pass?

Well....just want to add, we're there too! Potty using since June/July and all of the sudden going full blown pees on the floor! He's really good in public, but not at home. Hmmm.
