Hi, I am sitting her wondering what you other moms out there would do at the 1st sign of illness in your child. My daughter (10 months) was sneezing a lot today and towards the end of the day her nose began running clear. Now, we leave for vacation in 5 days, so I start to panic of course! I take her to a holistic ped and she uses chinese herbs so I started her on those first thing this morning when she was sneezing a lot. then i gave her some Vit. C, extra Vit D-3, and some Silver before bed. I stress out when my kids get sick so I try and do everything I can to ward it off as best I can. What do you other mom's out there do? I have a 3 yr old that is in pre-school who is the one who probably brought the germs home. Ugh i am really stressed! thanks for reading!

You sound a lot like me. I stress out very easily if DD is not feeling well especially when she was first born. I normally wait and monitor her. If she's eating and playing well I don't panic. I'm sure your DD will be set before vacation especially with the chinese herbs and extra C and D.

My choice of herbs is not always consistent, so I will give whatever I may have on hand that might help. I will often do a Vitmain C flush, zinc, herbal teas, limit grains (we are already vegan and wheat free), try to increase fruit and veggie intake, increase water consumption, barley greens a few times a day, bach flower essence crab apple, colloidal silver if I have it, and I think I may be missing a few things. Depending on the symptoms I switch it up a little bit.

Try not to worry so much, seems like you take a very active approach in helping your children get well!

I rub thyme oil into the soles of their feet. I dab some thieves oil on the back of their neck and soles of feet and diffuse it. Bath with Epsom salt, eucalyptus eo. I use olba's inhalers to open up nasal passages.

How do you give Vit D and these supplements to kids? Are they powder or liquid form that you add to their food??

I used to give DD the vitamin D tablet. She didnt mind the taste and it would dissolve quickly in her mouth. Now we get gel caps and she just chews it up. I give her 1000IU each day and when she is sick I double both vitamin C and D. I used crush up a chewable vitamin C tablet and let her suck the powder off my finger. Now that she is older I break the tablet and give her half of one every day. She gets 250 mg everyday. She also gets a chewable probiotic and a chewable 1000 mg fish oil capsule. We also to epsom salt baths and add some Eucalyptus oil.

I dont try to ward it off as I think getting sick is a part of life, I just try to make sure she has the tools necessary to fight it.

I get out my homeopathic kit and use accordingly. I also use essential oils like crazy...bath, diffuse in air via diffuser and in humidifier. Epsom salt bath with more essential oils. My winter time go to's are Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Lavender and Clove. Those are all good for decongestion, bacteria, fever, soothing and calming.
Last year I made honey syrups for the first time and will be making more this year...soon! I gave honey syrups in lieu of any other kind of medicine except occasionally motrin or something if my child is feeling absolutely miserable. I don't want them to feel miserable, but I really like to let things run their course as naturally as possible; meaning I don't use suppressants of any kind or typically we don't use fever reducers.
