Fleas on my Dog

I just discovered that my one-year-old chocolate lab has fleas.

I bought some Flee, Flea! from Dancing Paws a while ago, but have never put it on him. Would it work to get rid of the fleas he has, or is it just to prevent them? Is there any other way I can get rid of them without resorting to nasty chemicals? I have three kids in the house...

Where do I get it? How do I use it?

You want to make sure any DE you use is food grade - my DH ordered ours online. I'm not sure I'd put it directly on the dog since it can irritate the mucous membranes and dry out the skin, but it does a great job in the environment.
