Nipple pain at 13 months

Okay, so for the past two weeks, my nipples feel like they are severly bruised. It is quite painful to nurse dd2 and she only nurses a few times a day. Normally 3 times during the day and max twice at night. My nipples are also bright pink almost red, like thrush, but the pain is not the burning/itching i usually have with thrush. It is definitly a bruise type pain. even the water in the shower hurts.

As for changes in me or dd2, she isn't sleeping well for some reason I cannot figure out-could be teeth, could be starting at a babysitters 4 times a week. Some nights she wakes up just once or twice. Others its like 5 times.

I started taking probiotics, but I would think that would help not worsen thrush. I have some issues going on in the pelvic region, but don't think the two are related.

But it hurts. Help please ladies! I don't want to totally wean my baby yet, plus that still wouldn't tell me what the problem is.

I have had that problem recently, too. I went to see our local breastfeeding guru, an MD, and she took a swab. The culture came back for enterococcus and staph! I'm on penicillin for a few days more now, and hopefully that'll be the end of that.
