Fighting sleep!

My 4 month old daughter has always required a lot to get her to fall asleep. We usually bounce, sing, pat, and pacifier for anywhere between 10 minutes and an hour. All of the sudden, she no longer wants to fall asleep like that, or at all! When she shows signs of tiredness, I will get her ready, and all of the sudden she will start arching her back and screaming! So, I will let her go for a while more thinking maybe she is not ready for sleep, then I try again. Same thing! This has been going on for two days, but I don't know how to get her to sleep now. Last night, we ended up putting her in her car seat and bouncing her on the yoga ball, but that time is limited because she is getting very heavy! Is this normal? Is she in pain? I am pretty sure she is teething!

This might be crazy, but.... have you tried laying her down when she starts arching and screaming? My DS does that when he's tired and doesn't want to snuggle and just wants to go to sleep.
