Little rhythmic movements in baby? Heartbeat?

I'm 30 weeks and I am feeling rhythmic movements on my right side, right under my ribs. Does anyone know if it is possible that it's the baby's heartbeat I'm feeling if his back (or head?) is up against the outside of my uterus? What else could it be? It's not large jolts of the whole body like hiccups, I feel it when I press my hand against my uterus and it's like whatever body part is there is moving in a rhythm like a heartbeat, that's why I wonder if that is what it could be. Any experiences with this?

My thought is hiccups but maybe you've thought of that already? Did you experience hiccups a lot with your previous pregnancies? It took me til my second one to realize that is what I had felt during my first! Ha!

Oh, sorry, I didn't read where you said it wasn't like hiccups!

Hiya!

I get it, too. My best guess is that it's baby's "practice" breathing movements.

I get them too, but lower, almost in my hip. I always thought they were hiccups... guess I'm wrong?

If it's not as 'big' a movement as hiccups, it might be thumb sucking! My DS is totally addicted to his thumb--it started in utero. It took me the longest time to figure out what it was.

i feel the pulse of my placenta...perhaps that is it?

I've been feeling little rhythmic movements – I'd call them spasms, really – lately. They're always down by the cervix. From what I've read, it doesn't seem that they're BH and they seem a little too rapid to be hiccups, about 1 per second...but I don't know, maybe it's faster in tiny babes.

I thought their hiccups were faster than ours.

I would say hiccups, just because my daughter had hiccups all the time, and sometimes my whole belly would jump, and sometimes it would be more localized. It was entirely dependent on her position.

I really don't think there's anyway you're feeling the baby's heartbeat.

I've seen reference to practice breathing movements... It's very different from hiccups, it's almost like a pulsating sensation.

Exactly; I dont' know about Qbear'smama, but what I feel is completely different from when she has hiccups. It's not jerky; rather smooth and pulsating, like Demeter said.

Ok so I am guessing it is either practice breathing or thumb sucking...either way, how cute!!
