RH negative and TTC

I don't know enough about this. I'm being a google maniac today and biding my time in the 2WW by obsessing about everything that could go wrong. Yes...I need to go do something more productive like clean my house so I'll stop obsessing.

Anyways, I had a missed m/c January of 2009 and have been TTC pretty much ever since, with a few breaks in there. I m/c at home and never went to the hospital to have D&C or anything. I followed up with an OB in March that year (that's when I found out that I had miscarried). Anyways, I just realized that since I'm Rh negative I was supposed to have had a RhoGAM shot within 72 hours of m/c. I did not because I m/c at home and didn't realize it. Does anyone know much about this topic? Could I have Rh antibodies that would kill off a fertilized egg before/during implantation? I'm going to check with my fertility nurse when I see her again. But I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

No, even if you were sensitized, it would not prevent implantation.

The baby only starts producing RH around 7 weeks of pregnancy. Even then, the amount is so small that it is extremely unlikely to be detected by your body during an early miscarriage.

You can get an antibody screen to find out if you were sensitized (usually routine when chrcking blood type). If you are, it would be monitored during your pregnancy and only cause a problem if there was a blood exchange.

And, of course, if your partner is rh-, then it is not a problem.

As PP said, it shouldn't be an issue. I'm RH negative and currently pregnant--as far as I can tell, it didn't affect TTC at all (got pg 2nd try). I don't think you usually even need the Rhogam shot until 20 weeks or something like that.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm off work today and that's not a good thing because I'm in my 2WW and obsessing over everything that could possibly cause me to fail at conception this cycle. I need to get a life today!
