Covers in dryer?

I have always let our diaper covers (BG 4.0/Mother-ease Air flow) air dry but we are going to be on a trip and I may need them quicker. It usually takes a day for the BG and half a day for the ME. Anyone put their covers in a hot dryer with the diapers? I would rather use sposies if that would ruin my covers.

Thanks for any help,
Theresa

I throw my covers in the dryer three times a week. We've been using the same covers for about 9-10 months without issue. Most of my covers are Thirsties PUL.

I would be more worried about residual fabric softener.

I use BSWW and frequently throw them in with the dipes on a hot dry, though I take them out pretty early in the drying cycle.

I dry everything together on medium heat if I'm not line drying.

I have BG's and I put the covers in the dryer if I need them immediately (so usually just one or 2 and I hang the rest). They seriously only take 10 minutes. I wouldnt leave them in there longer than that. Ive done it probably 10 times to each diaper, and mine look almost brand new.

How long is your trip? I would do it short term on a trip, they won't be ruined THAT quickly. We occasionally miss pulling one out of the washer to line dry and they end up in the dryer, no big deal.

Heat

My understanding is the heat is good for PuL type covers.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but PUL is a medical grade material and it was designed to withstand an autoclave (so it should certainly have no trouble with a dryer). It's good to expose your covers to high heat at least periodically to reseal the PUL.

It's possible that drying in the drier every time could shorten the life of the elastics. I haven't had a problem, but we have a European drier and it doesn't get particularly hot. I don't know about issues with residual fabric softener either. We don't use fabric softener at all.

I have always dryer dried all my diapers covers inserts ect on high heat even for many years no issues.

Thanks, everyone!! We will be gone for a week so I will probably only need to put them in the dryer a few times. It is very good to know I have that option for at home too when I need a cover in a hurry.

Nice of you all to share,
Theresa

I always put covers (mostly Thirsties and BSWW) in the dryer and so far I've used them on two babies.
