nipple pain from teeth

Thread Starter
My dd is 14 months. For the longest time she only had her bottom teeth and that was fine, but once she got her top teeth it has been really uncomfortable and painful while nursing her, like her teeth are rubbing. Is there anything I can do about this to make it more comfortable?

Is she actually biting or do you think it might be her latch?

There are some latch videos on http://www.nbci.ca/index.php which is Dr Jack Newman's website.

It might really help you.

Have you gone to LLL meetings?

I found every time ds got a new tooth we had a couple weeks where his latch was uncomfortable & then either his latch got better or I got used to it & it ws fine again.

Hi- With both my children I had the same very uncomfortable feeling with the top teeth. Over a few weeks my nipples actually developed a little bit tougher skin right where the teeth hit, and it was not so sensitive. It also helped to change the tilt of the child's head encouraging their chin right into the breast, so that the angle worked better. It's just a habit and once my children knew it was more comfortable on me to keep chin to breast instead of more forehead to breast, we settled down again comfortably. Hope this helps.
