need a break but afraid time away will wean 2-year-old

I have 3 young kids and am 12 weeks pregnant with our fourth. I'm still nursing our 2-year-old a few times a day but am beginning to get ready to wean, mostly to try to make my life simpler when the fourth is born.

I say "beginning to get ready" because I'm sad at the thought of our nursing relationship being completely over, but at the same time, there are some things I'd like to do before the new baby comes that I don't feel I can while I'm still nursing -- namely, taking a day and night or two away.

I'm pretty much maxed out with parenting in general right now, and my husband is totally supportive of my going away for a weekend or even a whole week, just to get some rest and personal time. But I'm stopped by the worry that going away for a couple of nights will effectively wean our 2-year-old.

I know someone here must have been through something similar.

Would two nights away make a 2-year-old forget how to nurse?

Thanks in advance ladies.

I didn't do two nights, but Dh and I went away for one night and DD was fine not nursing for 24 hours. I would think that 48 hours would not stop a toddler from nursing unless they were very ready to wean already. I don't know about more than 2-3 days though.

Sorry if this wasn't much help. I say go for it. If you're worried just don't leave for more than a couple of days.

DS is now weaned, but I've been away from him as long as 4 days before and he nursed fine when I got back. He spent a few single overnights at Grandparents as well with no issues at all when he came back. A 2 year old is unlikely to forget how to nurse if you are gone for a few days.

I have left ds for several weekends in the past year & two weeks this summer. He is still nursing with no problems.

A weekend away really shouldn't cause a problem for a 2 year old.
