18 month old climbing out of crib

Mods, move this if it is in the wrong spot.

My 18 month old has figured out how to climb out of her crib. Luckily I was right there when she tumbled over the side and, though I was unable to catch her (across the room), I was right there to ensure she was okay and give her reassurances. (The crib was very low to the ground, so she only fell about 2-3 feet). I took it down and placed the mattress on the floor until we get her a toddler bed or a bed in a few months. Anyways, she won't just lay down and go to sleep for nap or bedtime. Now that she isn't confined to a crib, she thinks it is just playtime. I had to go in there and sleep on the floor next to her. If it helps, she's sick with a cold, too.

I never had mine in cribs, but for me the trick while they're still too young to do as their told and stay in bed is to lay with them until they get still and close their eyes and take 10 breaths without wiggling. Then I know it's safe to sneak off. With colds sometimes we just need to co-sleep in my bed all night, it's hard to sleep deeply with your nose stuffed.
