Okay, so I am an hour and a half from where I'll birth and I'm trying to figure out a good sign to know when to head out. So, this poll is about the interval beween when you had bloody show to birth of your first child...

Thanks!

I've never had bloody show.

I never had bloody show either! My water always broke first, not sure if that is related.

Never had one, but my water broke first with both labors.

I can't remember exactly, but I think it was 2 or 3 days before I went into labor.

Oh, and from what I read, the bloody show is not a good indicator of when you'll deliver. Sometimes it can be weeks before you deliver.

#1 didn't have any
#2 off and on for a month and then 8 hours before she was born I had it again (never a lot, just some pink stuff)
#3 12 hours between seriously large amount of bright red blood and holding her... had bloody show off and on for the 2 months before then though. After the real bright red bloody show, I had brown show every time I wiped.

I started bleeding or noticed I was bleeding, mucousy, heavy right as we were leaving to go to the hospital at 230am. He was born at 405am. I went into labor, first contraction at 1045pm the night before...quick labor. this wasn't the tinged mucousy stuff only when I wipe from the few days before - this was, soaking through my underwear (not like bright red scary bleeding, but very mucousy). My water hadn't broken yet...

I would go by contractions more than bleeding - like don't wait to start bleeding before you head over.

Both of my pregnancies I had bloody show when I was undeniably in labor for at least 6-8 hours and dialated 4cm.

I had no bloody show or mucous plug (that I saw) with my first.

I did have both of those with my second and third, before going into labour.

No bloody show or mucous plug for me either!

My daughter came 2-3 days after my bloody show. Sorry I can't remember exactly if it was 2 or 3 days but it was days after.

I didn't with my first that I recall... or my second. I started losing my plug (considered bloody show by some sources) days before my induction with #3 and with #4 it was WEEKS, yes... I said weeks... of it before her induction. To me bloody show isn't necessarily a very good indicator of how soon something will happen.

You will know when it is time to go.. and it's doubtful that the bloody show will play into it at all.

Oh, man! Thanks for the responses! I guess my worry is that contractions can peter out or move super quickly...I really don't want to have an interstate baby but as my BFF pointed out yesterday an interstate baby means there weren't any problems, right? Okay, well I'm going to keep the poll open just to see any other respones. This is very interesting!!!

First -72 hours.

Second- 36 hrs.

With my first, my mucous plug came out when checking into the hospital (literally, in the urine specimen, which is not good for protein readings!). I was there for around 12 hours before the impatient OBs insisted a c/s was necessary. However, I'd already been in labor for about 24 hours at that point.

I don't remember noticing it with #2, and with #3, it was only a few hours between the start of bloody show and the birth. Though, again, I'd been in labor for hours and hours at that point.

My best recommendation would be to learn the "emotional signposts" of labor. Those seem to be pretty consistent across most births (not all!) and may be your best indication of when to go. You really do want to stay home as long as possible, but I understand that may be tricky with a long drive!

oops, I voted w/o reading well enough... I voted for my SECOND birth- I didn't have a bloody show w/ my first. (for my second, it was about 11 hours pre-birth)

I second what a pp said about learning the 'emotional signs'.

With #1 it was a week. With #2 and #3 it was a few hours, and I didn't have any bloody show for the last two.
