cervix durring pregnancy

Thread Starter
i have 2 other live healthy children, and 2 miscarriages. never checked my cervix before TTC this like one, (7 weeks pregnant) and my cervix is high, mushy and open.

any ideas as to why? or if this in normal?

its not really open, it just feels open. because you have had two other children, it never really closes all the way... but what little gap there is is fine... the mucous plug is still in there protecting everything.

Mine is the same. I never checked it when I was pregnant with DS until the last couple of weeks, so I didn't know what it felt like during early pregnancy. Mine's really high and mushy too and it feels slightly open just like it does at other times, since I've been pregnant before.

In a multip, a full cm "dilation" at the outer os is considered normal. And my MW was happy at about 20 w when I reported that my cervix was even sfter than my lips

At 29 weeks, my cervix feels about the same as it did just before i went into labor with DS! It's about 1cm "dilated" and super soft. I don't know when it changed, but it's been like that for months already

Is it normal for first time moms too? I checked mine a couple of weeks ago for the first time during my pregnancy (I stopped doing regular checks after getting pregnant) and was surprised by how soft and open it felt.

(This is actually something I've been meaning to ask on here but kept forgetting)

I hadn't checked my cervix before labor until this pregnancy. I was surprised to find it so soft and mushy as I always thought it was supposed to be fairly firm. My MW said that, in fact, soft is normal and how they used to diagnose pregnancy. I have recently found a page that describes the pregnant cervix as feeling like pursed lips with the os being just like the little opening in your lips. Especially with a multip, being slightly dilated the whole time is totally normal.

This is my first pregnancy. Although I havent checked my cervix since around maybe 15-20 weeks, at that time it was high and mushy. My midwife said that this sounded totally normal, and advised I not check it super often for chance of introducing bacteria or infection. LOL.

I havent checked it since.
