DS is 27 months and potty learned himself just before his 2nd birthday. We were willing to wait it out, but he decided he was ready. When he's working on other milestones we have more minor accidents (a few drops in his underwear, but his pants usually stay dry). We just put dry underwear on and remind him a few times during the day to go pee. He really has to learn how long he can wait, he knows it is not always possible to go to a toilet immediately. The funny thing is that 99% of his accidents are at home. He's more aware of it when we're out and about.
His friend (same age, girl) is still in diapers and she sits down on a potty (on DS's requests usually, he's trying to PT her,
), but she doesn't pee. When she's naked, she makes puddles, so she wears diapers in our home. She is just not ready yet, but we see progress, she holds her pee in for longer times, wakes up dry after a nap etc. She'll figure it out in her own time.
