baby ear wax

Thread Starter
We were at a ped (not our regular one, one who deals with allergies) and we asked him to check DD's ears because I wondered if she had a mild ear infection. He said that she had so much ear wax in her ears that he couldn't see.

Were we suppose to be doing something in the ear canal?

You're not supposed to put anything in the ear canal! I just clean out the outer part of DD's ears, including the wax as it works its way out.

Exactly this. We just clean the outer parts.

Ditto the others. Ears are self cleaning, and the more you mess with them, the more wax they will make, so just wash what you can with a washcloth on your finger. Any excess that worries you, the ped, or a pediatric ENT, can look at and remove. Excessive ear wax could be an issue later, with language development, but in all likely hood it's a singular occurrence. Wax is like snot - it's the body flushing foreign stuff out of the body Has it been dusty in your area? Did you just turn on the heat in your house?
