sorry if this is TMI but what is going on here???

first off, i'll admit up front, i am a kegel drop-out. i didn't do them in preparation fro dd's birth and i didn't do them afterwards. i had maybe more leaking than if i had been good about it but it steadily improved until any leaking was mostly non-existant.

now i am maaaaybe 8 weeks preggos and i am piddling all over myself....when i cough, when i lift, and dh finally realized his dream of tickling me until i pee. i can't stop it, this is even if i've just emptied my bladder, and it's not an insignificant amount either.

what is going on??? i could understand if this happened later on but there is nothing pressing against anything this early. help!

do you have a UTI? could this be a possible reason why?

I peed tons in early pregnancy. Your kidneys are working overtime during the 1st trimester to filter anything remotely toxic out of your bloodstream. And your uterus IS pressing on your bladder more than usual. Don't know if that could be a reason for leaking or not... I would probably consult my doc at the next appt and in the meantime start the kegels........

I had the same thing during my second pregnancy ... I don't remember whether it happened in the first trimester though. I do remember in the second trimester I had to empty my bladder right before I exercised or else. If it is at all comforting, it did go away after he was born. And I am a non-kegeler too.

Am recovering from UTI in week 27. Today I told obgyn that I already had massive urge to pee frequently in 1st trimester (on holiday I'd agreed with dh that I'd sit for every loo we came across, otherwise we'd be permanently hunting for one!) and that therefore I was worried that I've had this UTI all along. She told me the 1st timester stands out for pressure on your bladder (as does the last trimester). So there is a similarity between what happens very early on and what happens towards the end in this regard!

(General advice to prevent UTIs: keep drinking tons and pee as much as you can as best as you can!)

Happens to me, too. Started towards the end of my second pregnancy, but in the first trimester w/ this second pregnancy. It's normal for some women, and I've read the risk increases w/ parity. One of those lovely things about being a mom, especially w/ subsequent pregnancies.

and this (about first trimester specifically):

And I won't add the links, but a quick search online showed that it's related to parity, prior vaginal birth, normal increases in cardiac flow/renal perfusion during first trimester, pressure of growing uterus on bladder, and progesterone. Sounds complex.

Actually I've heard kegels are useless if you aren't doing squats.

I'm in my 3rd pg, and I didn't notice as severe problems as you, but I did start having "accidents" just when I would SNEEZE! I am a kegeler, but I hadn't started them yet, so when this started getting embarassing, I started doing them. I'm not REALLY consistent, but now that I'm doing them a few times a week whenever I think about it, NO MORE LEAKING! (and I'm not doing squats yet ) So I'd definitely try some Kegels.

That was my earliest pregnancy symptom this time around, even before I was expecting my period. It was kind of bad, because I was recovering from a cold/sinus infection and coughing a lot. As soon as I started leaking with every cough, I began to wonder if I was pg.
