The past several weeks, 17mo DS has been telling me after he pees in his diaper. I don't get any notice on it though lol and we haven't done EC and I am not intersted in trying EC. It seems though he might be receptive of casual learning about the potty. I'll ask him, do you need a dry diaper? He'll pat his diaper and head to his room. When he pees, he taps his diaper and alerts me. I think it's great and wasn't expecting any awareness this soon. In the morning, I could probably catch him at the right time after breakfast, before he has a bowel movement, to try sitting on the toilet to see how that goes. Any ideas?

About that age I started putting ds on the toilet first thing in the morning & right after nap. It didn't take long from there that we could drop the diaper for naps altogether. I would also put him on at other times during the day sometimes but I wasn't consistent with it & we were usually only successful after waking anyway.
We started concerted pling at 22months & within a month he was reliable - I think a big part of that was that he already understood the process - it just took some time for him to get used to telling me in advance.
