proofreading assistance? vbac/hbac essay

Hello women

below is a link to my website where I have just posted an essay on vbac/hbac. The page is still under construction so there are no links there yet--though they will be in time.

If you have time to read it, and tell me what you think, I'd sure appreciate it!
I said 'proofreading' in my thread title, but you needn't take that too seriously since the writing program onsite is so helpful that way--I'm looking more for simple reactions/reviews/opinions. It is meant to be a general info page with links to more specific info (that supports my essay and also links to further info).

Also, if you have favorite vbac/hbac links to share, please do! Click on the 'Choices' tab and use the comment box on that page to send me links.

You can otherwise send responses to the essay on this thread, via pm or through the Choices page comment box.

And by the way, feel free to look around the site...it's still under construction but coming along pretty well (I think, anyway )

Yo--

Someone pointed out to me that my essay has a mistake, concerning placenta accreta/percreta and it's risk of hemorrhage associated with VBAC. Turns out that is old news and now is understood the other way around--that RCS actually creates more risk of hemorrhage for women with placental 'over-attachment' issues. Anyway, I'm now in search of more info on that...anyone see anything on this lately?

thanks!

Awesome!!! I've always wanted to do a blog on my personal blog about VBAC's. For myself and for my family and friends to just plain old understand!!!! And lookie here, you have an entire website dedicated to this and more! WOW!

One thing I was thinking is putting in percentages. To show just how low the risk of uterine rupture or maternal or fetal death really is. And give numbesr to go with where you talk about how few women really have CPD, but how many are diagnoses with it. I've just always been really surprised by numbers and seeing how small VBAC risk numbers are, then compare it to how big some of the c/s risks are, well, that was really eye opening for me. As well as comforting, KWIM?

Not sure if this is something extra you'd want to add in there, but what about a section about c/s risks? To sort of compare how, yes, there is risk to VBAC, but, look at the many many risks to c/s! Here's the site that I found and liked about those numbers: http://www.vbac.com/pdfs/CesareanFactSheet.pdf

Here are a few others that I like:
http://vbacfacts.com/vbac/
http://vbacfacts.com/2010/09/19/cesa...-consent-form/
http://vbacfacts.com/2010/03/16/anot...lt-misinforms/

I'm just mentioning this because a newbie to the world of VBAC info may not know just how high some c/s risks can be and by seeing them compared, it could cause them to really look at what they want in the end!

Sorry, I don't know anything about the placenta accreta/percreta you were asking!

MNHall--

thanks so much for all that! I so appreciate it.

My plan is to put in the stuff you mentioned about actual risks/%s, below the essay...the pattern I've been using with the website is to write an essay, followed by links. With this vbac page, I thought instead of just putting in links to info (which is what I did for my GBS essay), that I would put in links with a sentence or 2 summing up the info on the link. Such as a link to current research on UR, with a sentence like "this article shows that the UR rate for low-risk vbacs is .x%" "these links provide info on the real risks to mothers/babies of csec, including the escalating risks of repeated csecs". And so forth.

However, someone else told me maybe I should have that info right in the essay--comparative stuff like you said. Back to the drawing board, I guess!

Hmm, well, that's certainly something to play around with!

I can see either way being beneficial. If it's in the essay, you could read it as you're going and sort of be relevant to what you're reading. But then I also see the other way, where you can read all of the stats and see them all one after another, numbers and stats, and then click on the link if you wanted more linfo!

I'm sure playing around a bit you'll figure out which way you prefer it!
