Do you have a carpet steam cleaner?

The home we are renting is filled with carpet. White carpet. We need a carpet cleaner of some kind, preferably one that does not require the use of chemicals to do a good job. Also, cheap but good is best for our budget. Recs?

We have this Bissell, and I'd say it works pretty well. We also have white carpets, and just use water to clean. I think the biggest thing to look for is a steamer that actually heats up the water. That's what you need to get carpets clean, rather than using soap that just attracts more dirt. Most cheaper machines don't have built in heaters.

I have the same steamer as Drummers Wife!

I had the version without the heater as well, and it did ok. We bought the pro-heat version when we moved into our house. I love it. We also have nearly white carpets, and they get icky. I had the carpets professionally cleaned right before we moved in, and my Bissell does a better job than they did.

Oh, B&G you read my mind. DH "owes" me a steam cleaner as payment for... something. LOL It's a long story. Anyway, I told him he has like a week to pony up.

Just sayin'.

Can't wait! I want to steam clean SO BAD. (2 kids + 3 dogs = nasty carpets.)

We just bought this one, but ours is red (maybe because we're in Canada so they have different colors?):

It seems like it's the mid range model, Drummer's Wife seems to have a more heavy duty model. I just didn't have the money to get a better one than this at the moment. It seems to ge ok reviews, so i'm hoping it works ok as we have wall to wall carpeting in every room but the kitchen and bath (the joys of renting ). I'll be cleaning my carpets at the end of the week, and I'm very excited to have cleaner carpets, they've been really getting to me lately.

We also have a Bissell. I use white vinegar in place of the chemical soaps and rinse with water.

ElaynesMom - yours looks pretty similar to ours; I bet it works great! It says there is a built-in heater, and I think that is more important than having more brushes or any other feature. Hope you like it!

We have the same one as well and love it. We bought ours from Best Buy and bought it maybe 3 months ago? We replaced our old one that was a Bissell that we had for 7 years.
While our carpet is not white, it's a light beige and still shows the dirt. This machine is easy to use and maneuver for quick clean ups - especially since we have dogs that tend to 'mark' a certain area!

I have a Bissell, and I got it for $100 off a craigslist-type site. The guy had bought it and used it ONCE before moving in with his parents. If you find one that's used, but not in perfect condition, vacuum repair shops can clean and condition them (my mom has one too, and lent it out to someone who didn't vacuum well before using it, so she had hers cleaned at a shop and said it works like new).

If you have kids and/or pets, and carpet and/or upholstery, I think they're a great investment.

Not sure if you've purchased a cleaner yet, but there is a $20 off coupon for the Bissell type that we've mentioned at Lowe's on redplum.com. FYI.

I have white carpet in my home and i think so that warm water removal method is most accepted way of carpet cleaning and it also maintain your mats comparatively clean for a long period.
